How Jersey Jerry's epic hole-in-one chase got a viewer suspended from work for a week
Last week, much to the chagrin of old heads who have some how figured out how to use the internet, Barstool Sports' Jersey Jerry broke social media with his epic hole-in-one (on a simulator) chase. Everyone from Tom Brady to Brooks Koepka to Paige Spiranac reacted to the incredible saga, one that helped double the amount of subscribers to his YouTube channel.
"I think what made it interesting was, if I was a regular person tuning into the stream, and let's say I invested an hour of my time into the stream, it's going to obviously be more because you can't leave," Jersey Jerry told us on this week's episode of The Loop podcast. "You were already invested. You can't just stop watching, because if you missed it [the ace], you're going to be so upset at yourself."
Funny enough, one regular person invested TOO much time in Jerry's chase for the ace. So much time, in fact, that the guy got in trouble at his place of work.
"I felt so bad, like actually bad, for the people watching," he said. "And people tell me today, 'dude, we would have watched another 24 hours.' There was no reason for me to feel bad, but I just wanted to get it over with. I just wanted to get it over with so people could, like, go back to work. One guy messaged me on Twitter and said he got suspended a week, no pay, because he didn't show up for two days to work. He was just watching the stream. They suspended him for a week, no pay."
We'd imagine that was a tough one to explain to the boss man. "Sorry I haven't shown up, I'm watching this internet personality bash ball after ball into a screen until he gets a hole-in-one." Clearly, that guy's boss is not as chronically online as the rest of us.
