Jason Day had a damn good excuse for missing that Presidents Cup International Team dinner

After breaking a five-year winless drought last year at the Byron Nelson, it's been a pretty quiet 2024 for Jason Day. Well, if you don't count that loud sweater vest at the Masters last month, which caused the Augusta National fashion police to spring into action.

The Aussie also wasn't in attendance at Tuesday night's Presidents Cup International Team dinner, hosted by captain Mike Weir. Here's a look at the crew that did show up:

But as Day explained on Wednesday, he wasn't just laying low. He actually had a damn good excuse.

"I didn't go to the team dinner last night because my wife's birthday," Day said.

In fact, it would be tough to think of a better excuse. As anyone who is married knows, you live by the following phrase: Happy wife, happy life.

But don't worry, International Team fans, because Day is still all-in for the Presidents Cup this September in Montreal.

"Yeah, so Mike [Weir] has been a great captain so far. With the current vice captains we have, we have a lot of experience. I think he's doing all the right things. He's had success there in the past. We're trying to do as much as we can to get the local crowd on our side as the home team," Day continued. "Then I think the Canadian guys on team right now as well are jacked to play. It's all coming together now, which is good. See how it goes."

And Day is also excited about the possibility of representing Australia at the Summer Olympics.

"If I get the opportunity I'm 100% going," Day said.

With that event being played in Paris, we're guessing Ellie won't mind going, either.
