Despite Super Bowl MVP, Jalen Hurts won't be playing golf this offseason thanks to this brutal clause in his contract

Cooper Neill
Jalen Hurts is now a Super Bowl champion. Let that sink in a moment. On Sunday night, the former Alabama QB, infamously benched in the 2018 CFP title game, led the Philadelphia Eagles to a dominant 40-22 victory over the three-peat seeking Kansas City Chiefs. In the process, he was named the Super Bowl MVP, silencing all the haters until at least September. We don't know if Hurts will be headed to Disney World, as the old cliche goes, but we know one thing he won't be doing:
Playing golf ... even if a former president comes calling.
Back in October, soon after the Eagles began their 17-game unbeaten run that culminated in Sunday's Super Bowl LIX victory, Hurts revealed that he had recently spent a few hours on the golf course with former President Barack Obama. He just didn't actually play golf. True story.
The NFL star revealed that odd tidbit on Wednesday when asked about the experience he still referred to as "a blessing." So why couldn't this celebrity golfer tee it up? Turns out, it has to do with a clause in his contract.
"To see him out there enjoying himself and talking a little trash, that was cool," Hurts said. "I told him he didn’t want these problems just yet. I can’t golf right now. By contract, I can’t golf. His day will come."
Wow. That really, um, hurts.
Hurts signed a five-year, $255 MILLION contract in 2023, which is the opposite of brutal. And the only reason why we're not ripping his agent for allowing the non-golf clause to get in there. But suddenly, all that money doesn't seem as great if you can't play golf for FIVE YEARS. (It's possible/likely this is only in effect during football season, but still, pretty brutal.)
Hurts joined teammate Saquon Barkley and Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie in the foursome on Monday. Which is kind of weird considering Lurie is the man behind the no-golf clause.
"I was told not to golf by Mr. Lurie," said Hurts over the summer, adding that he had picked up tennis instead, according to the Delaware News Journal. "(It's a) funny story, I'll tell you another day."
No better time than the present, Jalen!
Anyway, it's not like Hurts missed out on playing a great golf course or anything. LOL JK! They were playing freaking Merion, which is No. 6 on Golf Digest's list of American's 100 Greatest Golf Courses. Again, brutal.
Perhaps after Hurts' Super Bowl success, he can renogotiate his contract to get rid of that pesky no-golf clause. After the season he's just had, it's safe to say he deserves it.
