Top amateur breaks another course record at Pinehurst, plays The Cradle par-3 course in 18 (!) strokes
After shattering the course record for Pinehurst No. 4 just six weeks ago during the North & South Amateur, shooting a 61, Jackson Van Paris has broken yet another record at the historic "Home of American golf."
Van Paris, a 19-year-old rising junior at Vanderbilt who is a Pinehurst local, seemed to have the home-field advantage yet again when he teed it up at The Cradle, the resort’s par-3 course designed by Gil Hanse, this past Sunday.
He played the nine-hole short course in just 18 strokes, carding seven birdies and a hole-in-one on the sixth hole.
His impressive display of finesse and skill was enough to break the record of 19, formerly held by Jack Heath.
No. 44 in the World Amateur Golf Ranking, Van Paris hopes to be a contender next week when he plays the U.S. Amateur Championship at Cherry Hills Country Club outside Denver. He lost in the semifinals at the North & South but was the winner earlier this summer at the Sunnehanna Amateur and finsihed in the top 10 at the Northeast Amateur.
The question now is which Pinehurst course Van Paris has his sights set on next!
