Impact: Bobby Jones speaks his mind about match play

It's among the safest bets in golf to say no one ever breaks Jones' record five U.S. Amateur titles. Perhaps that's more a function of the way amateur golfers leap to the pro ranks these days, but it's also a measure of just how great a match-play golfer Robert Tyre Jones Jr.
In 13 starts in the USGA's oldest championship, Jones amassed a record of 44-8. And in seven of those eight defeats, he was beaten by an opponent who himself was either a former or soon-to-be U.S. Amateur champion.
It's no wonder that as professional golf's biggest match-play competition begins today in Tucson that one of the four brackets is named for Jones.
