Henrik Stenson poses with the trophy after winning the Hero World Challenge at Albany in 2019.

After a one-year hiatus due to COVID, the Hero World Challenge, hosted by Tiger Woods, returns to Albany Golf Club in The Bahamas with a small but stacked field set to play.

Past major champions Rory McIlroy, Jordan Spieth, Justin Thomas, Justin Rose and Henrik Stenson will be joined by Race to Dubai victor Collin Morikawa and Patrick Reed. Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka, fresh off their mano-a-mano showdown at The Match, will also be among the 20 players competing this week.

Stenson, the defending champion of the event, became the third non-American to win in four years back in 2019 when he took down Jon Rahm by one shot. Four golfers had a share of the lead on the back nine until Stenson’s wild 5-wood eagle on the par-5 15th separated him from the chasers.

Despite all the talent in The Bahamas this week, most of the early week attention will be given to Woods. On Tuesday, the golf great had his first press confeenve since his February car accident, speaking about his recovery and his golf future, among other things. A day earlier, he talked to Golf Digest for a 30-minute sit-down video interview where he spoke frankly about the fact that a full time return to the PGA Tour is unlikely.

The winner of this event will receive $3.5 million.
