As a pair of golfers familiar with winning at Torrey Pines tried to chase him down on Saturday, and an up-and-comer looked to make good on his potential, Luke List ultimately wouldn’t be denied his long-awaited first PGA Tour win. The 37-year-old, after seven-plus seasons on tour and 205 career starts, claimed victory No. 1, beating Will Zalatoris with a birdie in a playoff to claim the Farmers Insurance Open.

List posted a final-round 66 at Torrey Pines South nearly two hours ahead of the final groups, then waited to see if anybody could catch or pass his 15-under 273 total. Zalatoris, also trying to grab his first tour win, sat at 15 under for most of his back nine and had a birdie on the 72nd hole to claim the win, but just missed from eight feet, forcing a playoff.

The pair returned to the 18th hole, both hitting a faiway bunker off the tee moments after the sun officially set over the nearby Pacific. Each laid up in the fairway with their second shots, with List hitting his approach to within a foot to set up an easy birdie. That kick-in gave him the win when Zalatoris, who hit his approach to 16 feet, missed his birdie try to the right.

Also in the mix were past Farmers winners Jon Rahm and Jason Day. Day was at 15 under par until making back-to-back bogeys on the 16th and 17th holes, then birdied the 18th to come up one shot shy of the playoff with a closing 72. Rahm (71), who also won the U.S. Open at Torrey Pines last June, also finished at 14 under when he missed a birdie attempt on the 18th hole.

With the win, List claimed the first-place prize money payout of $1.512 million from an overall purse of $8.4 million. Here are the prize money payouts for each golfer making the cut this week.
