Fujikura’s Speeder Evolution IV, the latest shaft to build on the Speeder platform introduced in the late 1990s, offers a new feel for better players looking for a low-launch, low-spin shaft option.

While the Evolution IV starts with a similar launch profile to the Speeder Evolution II, the softer feel comes through a softer mid-section that runs all the way down to the tip. This is designed to lead to easier launch, while the Evolution IV’s high-strength materials maintain torsional stability and low spin. One key is the use of one of the strongest intermediate modulus carbon fiber materials, which has been used in the aerospace industry. It’s designed to create a smoother loading and unloading of the shaft’s bending during the force of the swing.

The Evolution IV, which is expected to debut on the PGA Tour in November, will be available in weight ranges from 56 to 77 grams and in five flexes (SR, R, R2, S, X). The shaft will be offered exclusively at JDSClubs.com in October ($400) before national distribution starts Nov. 1.
