No sooner had the three-man playoff ended at the Frys.com Open in Scottsdale, Ariz., on Sunday (won by Tory Matteson) than word emerged that the tournament is moving to CordeValle in San Martin, Calif., in the foothills of the Santa Cruz Mountains south of San Jose.
Fry's Electronics headquarters are in San Jose and tournament eventually is supposed to move to the Institute in nearby Morgan Hill, a course owned by John Fry, founder and owner of Fry's Electronics.
CordeValle is an upscale resort spectacularly bordered by hills and vineyards. If it has a downside it's that it's remote -- 30 miles from San Jose.
