Fantasy Fix: Can Bubba win a home game at the Greenbrier Classic?
Usually July 4th weekend gets lost in the lull between the U.S. Open and the British Open, but if this year's Greenbrier Classic is even half as entertaining as its pro-am, we're in for a treat. First, you had Tiger Woods actually looking like Tiger Woods during a sharp front nine, and then Shaquille O'Neal teed it up with Lee Trevino serving as his caddie (Please tell us this is part of some elaborate commercial for Icy Hot). Sadly, we need to see a bit more from the World's 220th-ranked player before we plug him into the lineup. Who do we like instead? Let's start with our weekly PGA Tour Fantasy Golf roster:
Bubba Watson: Have you seen his commercials? Bubba Watson LOVES living at the Greenbrier. Plus, he's shot in the 60s in all eight of his competitive rounds at the Old White TPC and he's coming off a win at the Travelers. There's no reason to take him out of the lineup unless you're worried about Shaq dropping him.
Webb Simpson: In the last four years, Simpson has had three chances to win here. Twice, he stumbled on Sunday and last year, his final-round 63 wasn't enough to overcome a big deficit. He seems due for a victory.
Kevin Kisner: He's 0-for-3 making cuts here, but this isn't the same Kevin Kisner. In his last seven starts, he has two runner-ups (playoff losses at the Players and Hilton Head), another two top 10s and a T-12 at the U.S. Open. Plus, he's giving owners a stout 22.7 points per round just with his driving.
Bill Haas: Haas is coming off a rare missed cut at the U.S. Open, but he returns to a course where he has shot over par just once in his last 15 rounds. Haas hasn't quite played as well as he did in his Greenbrier debut, when he lost in a playoff to Scott Stallings, but a T-9, T-23 and T-33 since aren't too shabby.
