Fantasy Fix: Should you bank on Bubba at the Tour Championship?

    September 10, 2014

Well, we've made it to the end of another season. Hopefully, you're still playing for something this week -- albeit not the potential $12 million payday the pros will be gunning for at the Tour Championship. So who do we think will walk away from Atlanta with a big sack of money? A look at our weekly Yahoo! fantasy lineup:

Starters -- (A-List): Bubba Watson. Could a win here get him back in the conversation for player of the year? We thought that debate was done when Rory McIlroy won the PGA Championship, but three wins plus the FedEx Cup would be nothing to sneeze at.

(B-List): Rory McIlroy. Speaking of Rory, his only other appearance in Atlanta for this event produced a disappointing T-10 and a runner-up to Brandt Snedeker in the FedEx Cup. He's not going down that easy this time. We expect Rory and Bubba to battle it out for the tournament and that $10 million bonus.

(B-List): Jim Furyk. The man hasn't won in four years, but that win came right here and made him the 2010 FedEx Cup champ. Furyk could match Bill Haas as the only player to make their first win of the season the Tour Championship and match Tiger Woods with two FedEx Cup trophies if he can secure a long overdue victory and get some help.

(C-List): Sergio Garcia. Yes, he made that disastrous triple bogey on the 71st hole at the BMW Championship, but he's still the third-ranked player in the world and he's had a fantastic summer. He's also finished runner-up at East Lake twice.

Bench/Backups: Matt Kuchar, Jordan Spieth, Billy Horschel, Jimmy Walker.

Knockout/One-and-done pick: Bubba Watson. Somehow, we managed to make it through the year and not use this guy, so it's a no-brainer at this point. Watson doesn't have the best track record at East Lake, but he finished a career-best T-5 there in his last trip (2012). Good luck and we'll see you next season! (In a few weeks)

Previously used: Keegan Bradley (Doral), Tim Clark (Sony), Jason Day (Congressional), Graham DeLaet (Phoenix), Luke Donald (Valspar), Jason Dufner (Bridgestone), Rickie Fowler (Honda Classic), Jim Furyk (Heritage), Sergio Garcia (British Open), Bill Haas (Farmers), Charley Hoffman (Travelers), Billy Horschel (Zurich), Charles Howell III (Humana), Freddie Jacobson (Valero), Dustin Johnson (Northern Trust), Zach Johnson (Colonial), Martin Kaymer (BMW), Matt Kuchar (U.S. Open), Martin Laird (Kapalua), Hunter Mahan (Canadian), Graeme McDowell (Bay Hill), Rory McIlroy (PGA Championship -- WINNER!), Ryan Palmer (Memphis), Justin Rose (Memorial), Adam Scott (Masters), Webb Simpson (Wyndham), Brandt Snedeker (Deutsche Bank), Jordan Spieth (Houston), Henrik Stenson (Players), Jimmy Walker (Pebble -- WINNER!), Nick Watney (Barclays), Gary Woodland (Nelson).
