Every PGA Tour fan could use this starter's handy player pronunciation guide

    January 27, 2025

If you watch a lot of the PGA Tour, there's a good chance you know how to pronounce most players' names. Heck, just being able to read helps a lot. But there are always fresh faces, from hot-shot rookies to journeymen, that take a bit of time to learn.

If you're a PGA Tour starter, however, you don't have that luxury. As we've seen through the years, butchering just one name can cause you to go viral. And don't expect the players to let you off the hook when you mess up. These starters are under a lot of pressure!

So it makes sense that the tour helps them out by providing them with handy player pronunciation guides. Like the one PGA Tour winner Michael Kim shared on X (formerly Twitter). Have a look:

Now a starter asking MICHAEL KIM how to pronounce his name is going a bit overboard. It doesn't get any easier than that. But again, these starters are feeling the heat!

And that sheet could come in handy for most fans watching at home as well. Yes, there are some obvious ones on there, but even some announcers are still figuring out how to say Ludvig Aberg. And for others like Kevin Velo ("Rhymes with Jell-o"), well, it just makes things easy peasy.

Anyway, maybe print yourself out a copy ahead of this week's tournament.
