European 8 picked for 2012 Palmer Cup

The eight players making up European Palmer Cup captain Rickard Lindberg's 2012 team have been named by the GCAA. Here are the players who'll compete against the U.S. team, which will be named tomorrow, at Royal County Down June 28-30.

David Booth, University of Stirling (England)

Julien Brun, TCU (France)

Sebastian Cappelen, Arkansas (Denmark)

Daan Huizing, Utrecht University (Netherlands)

Robert Karlsson, Liberty (Sweden)

Thomas Pieters, Illinois (Belgium)

Graeme Robertson, University of Stirling (Scotland)

Pontus Widegren, UCLA (Sweden)

Brun will be the first French player to compete in the matches while Pieters is the first from Belgium.

Cappelen (3-1), Karlsson (0-2-2) and Widegren (2-2) competed for the European team last year when they lost to the American squad at The Stanwich Club in Greenwich, Conn. Widegren also played for the Euros in 2010, compiling a 3-1 record.

"This is a very strong European team with links experts that will suit this kind of course," said Lindberg, who is also the men's coach for the Swedish national team. "It's going to be a great match, and I can't wait."
