Europe Wins The Morning Matches

August 22, 2009

SUGAR GROVE, Ill.-- Say what? That's right, Europe rallied at the end to take the Saturday morning session 2.5 to 1.5. You blinked, didn't you?

All three of the remaining fourball matches went to 18 -- as did three of the four yesterday. (For those not checking their watches, today's final morning match clocked in at six hours and three minutes.)Â

Americans Stanford and Lang stumbled on the finish line and both bogeyed 18 to hand Euros Matthew and Luna a halve in match no. 10. Swede Anna Nordquist birdied 16 and 18 to give her team a 2-up win in match no. 11. And Maria Hjorth came this close to a hole-in-one on the par-3 16th, helping her team get back to 1-up in match no. 12, which they held on to till the end. The grand-total score now stands at 6-6. It's a tied ball game, ladies and gentlemen.
