Save for later

For most golfers, we've officially hit the offseason. It's a sad time, but it's also an opportunity to reassess one's game and figure out what to work on before the next year. And if you've been struggling out of bunkers, we have good news.

You might be doing it ALL wrong.

Check out how Haotong Li played a bunker shot on Friday during the second round of the Nedbank Golf Challenge. Forget the sand wedge, the 30-year-old elected to simply used his putter. And it worked. For the most part.

Not too shabby. And this is from a guy who has won four times on the DP World Tour and finished T-4 at the Open Championship this year.

Of course, the situations have to be right. As you can see, there wasn't much of a lip on that bunker. So, usually we'd suggest sticking with a wedge.

So, while you're sitting at home not playing, check out Golf Digest's 6-step guide to hitting a bunker shot. But also know that whacking one with your putter is also an option the next time you find some sand.
