In putting, the first skill you need is starting the ball on line. You do that by making sure the putterface is aiming where you want the ball to start and your path is relatively straight. Build this combination into your stroke by setting up a simple drill station. Find a straight 10-footer and set up two alignment sticks just outside the width of your putterhead as a track to the hole. At the far end of the track, set up a gate with two pennies just wider than the ball (pictured). Make a practice stroke first over the inside alignment stick, then roll putts through the gate. By the end of the week, you should be able to roll 25 balls out of 30 through the gate of pennies without any problem.
