WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW: The new Scotty Cameron by Titleist Champions Choice limited-edition run includes three models. The Newport Button Back boasts a flat topline and tungsten weights along with the Teryllium insert. The Button Back Newport 2 has a narrower topline and customizable sole weights while the Flowback 5.5 Button Back has a rounded mid-mallet profile and a slant neck (based of some models made for PGA Tour professionals) to promote toe flow and nearly one shaft of offset. Each of the putters comes in a silver mist finish designed to reduce glare at address.

PRICE: In golf shops August 6 in limited quantities, the putters will sell for $600 each.

THE DEEP DIVE: When Scotty Cameron introduces a limited-edition putter line, it almost feels like underselling to call it a limited-edition. After all, when Cameron makes only a smattering of something, it might be sold out before someone has the opportunity to read this piece.

Duty, however, requires us to inform you of its existence, even if its acquisition might take some effort. Plus, when one of the designs is based off the model used to win back-to-back U.S. Opens, the putters are certain to produce intrigue.

That’s the idea behind Cameron’s Champions Choice line, a three-model family of putters based on the Special Select family but with the time-tested Teryllium insert, “Button-Back” setup accompanied by graphics and accessories celebrating the success of Cameron putters.

The three models are the Newport Button Back, Newport 2 Button Back (inspired by Brooks Koepka’s putter used to win the 2017 and 2018 U.S. Opens) and Flowback 5.5 Button Back, each with a milled 303 stainless-steel body and Teryllium insert, which some might feel is a throwback design, however it is produced using modern manufacturing processes to ensure more precision. On the Flowback 5.5 a 6061 aluminum sole plate is used to reposition weight to the perimeter of the mallet-shaped head for more stability and better performance on off-center strikes.

“With back-to-back U.S. Open wins in 2017 and 2018, with a Button back, I had the idea for Champions Choice as a way to bring back the Button Back, but in a new, modern way,” said Cameron.

To enhance sound and feel, a dampening layer is added between the body and the Teryllium face and is not only kept in place by adhesive, but by the Button Back’s hallmark screws
