British Open 2025: Jordan Spieth trying this shot from a crazy lie during a practice round is peak Jordan Spieth
Charlie Crowhurst/R&A
Fans at Royal Portrush already got a sneak peak of the full Jordan Spieth Experience during a practice round.
The three-time major champ hit a wild shot that found a crazy lie on a dune atop a bunker. But Spieth attempted to play it as it lies. And, well, it didn't go too well.
Have a look at this fan video of Spieth taking a hack at his golf ball only to watch helplessly as it dribbles backward into a bunker:
That's a tough spot. That's also peak Jordan Spieth. Well, peak would have been him somehow pulling off a heroic shot from there, but just attempting this in a practice round seems fitting.
Now, if you're a Spieth fan—and we know just about all golf fans are—you can look at this in two ways:
1.) Why risk an injury in the practice round? Especially from a guy who had offseason wrist surgery?
2.) The whole point of a practice round is to PRACTICE the shots you might face. And as we know with Spieth, he has a tendency to find himself in crazy spots just like this.
Heck, his British Open win in 2017 came after a crazy 25-minute delay after he drove it into some high dunes on the 13th hole at Royal Birkdale and wound up dropping from a driving range and saving bogey. So, maybe this is a great omen of good things to come for Spieth at Royal Portrush.
But even if he doesn't play well this week, we can guarantee one thing: The fans following him will come away entertained.
