Beau Hossler could not have looked more serene after his tee shot on the par-3 11th hole on Friday at El Cardonal at Diamante.

In the midst of a hot run that saw him birdie five of the first 10 holes in the second round of the World Wide Technology Championship, Hossler used an 8-iron on the 179-yard hole. Everybody on the tee saw Hossler absolutely cover the flag, but because the group couldn’t view much of the surface of the green, no one saw the ball land and scoot quickly into the cup. Unfortunately, it appears on the video that there were no fans around the green to produce any kind of affirmative roar.

So Hossler, who didn't even produce a smile, simply turned to hand his club to his caddie. “Go in?” somebody asked. Said another, “It’s got to be really close.”

There is no follow-up highlight, but it figures Hossler was thrilled to retrieve the ball from the hole—especially because the ace for an eagle put him at eight under for the day. Hossler made three subsequent birdies and a bogey at the last to score 62 and climb 64 spots on the day and into a tie for 35th after he opened with a 76.

"It's cool; you're kind of just grinding trying to make the cut," Hossler said. "I played so poorly yesterday that I was trying not to get too high or too low and just kind of grind it out. Even this golf course with not too much wind can be pretty tricky and weird stuff can happen. I was more excited about the two under par on the hole than necessarily making an ace."

The PGA Tour's website originally reported that the ace was the first of Hossler's career, but he corrected that, saying he made one last year in the Barracuda Championship. "But it wasn't on film," he said.
