Australian tour pro mocks Phil Mickelson after outdriving him: "Apparently, he hits bombs"

February 01, 2022

Admittedly, we don't know much about golfer Travis Smyth. Some quick research reveals he's a 27-year-old from Australia who is currently No. 733 in the Official World Golf Ranking. But in the Unofficial World Boldness Ranking, we're going to go ahead and rank him much, much higher.

Smyth played with Phil Mickelson in a Monday practice round ahead of this week's Saudi International. And while he was very complimentary of the six-time major champ, the Aussie also couldn't resist to post a video after he outdrove him. And, well, that wasn't all of it. have a look and listen:

"Apparently, he hits bombs. . . " Using his own line against him! Dagger!

Of course, Mickelson is no stranger to needling others on the course. But a legend of the game is nice enough to tee it up with you—and you do him like that? In such a public forum? That's pretty bold!

Of course, Lefty had a funny retort for this upstart.

"I am 51," Mickelson can be heard saying in the background. "Is beating up on old guys, is that your deal? Is that your thing?"

Mickelson, however, hadn't replied to the tweet at the time of this post. And you know he sees everything on social media, so you have to wonder if this is the last time he tees it up with young Travis. Then again, it probably all depends on who got the last laugh when they settled up after the round.
