Andrew "Beef" Johnston is wearing FootJoy's new spikeless shoes
Last week, FootJoy released its new Pro/SL shoe, which Andrew “Beef” Johnston has worn over the past couple of weeks. You might not have Beef's charisma or facial hair, but this model of shoes is now available to the public.
The Pro/SL is a spikeless shoe that might be better categorized as a performance shoe with casual traits. It has a waterproof upper, and an outsole made of a polymer that’s 10 percent lighter than EVA (a foam used in outsoles).
FootJoy says this new outsole absorbs shock better and has more cushion. The midsole and outsole have a combined three layers to provide comfort and support.
The top layer, which your foot touches, is soft and provides comfort for your foot. The next layer is firmer for better support. The bottom layer has traction elements on it to keep you connected to the ground and more stable during your swing.
Adam Scott and Louis Oosthuizen are among several other tour players that are now wearing the Pro/SL. Retail: $165 for a laced pair, and $200 for Boa closure.
