A&M women sign Aussie grad student

August 12, 2009

While it was the Texas A&M men's team that made headlines with its national title last June, the women's team recently scored a major coop with the signing of Australian Institute of Sport standout Julia Boland. The Tamworth, Australia native won the Trans National Amateur last month and qualified for stroke play at the U.S. Women's Amateur last week. Previously this summer she also reached the quarterfinals of the Women's North & South Amateur Championship.

Boland's addition to the Aggie roster this fall comes with a caveat: she already received a bachelor's degree from the University of Sydney this past spring so she'll arrive in College Station as a graduate student and have only one year of eligibility.

"Julia will bring a tremendous amount of experience to our team," women's coach Trelle McCombs said in a press release. "We are very excited to have such an accomplished player joining our team. With the addition of Julia to our roster alongside our veterans and incoming freshman, we will be able to do a lot of great things this year."
