A small college with a big heart: Ohio Northern golfers honor military, fallen soldier
Ohio Northern University is a small school (3,695 students) that has made a large gesture, courtesy of its men’s and women’s golf teams.
The teams are honoring the military via their golf bags. The women’s team features on their bags the name of Shawn Levi English, an Army captain from Westerville, Ohio, who in 2006 was deployed to Iraq and lost his life training Iraqi soldiers. He was 35.
The women’s Facebook page featured a photo of a bag, and included this tribute: “It is with great pleasure and much honor that the Ohio Northern University Women's Golf team carry this bag with pride and remember not only Captain Shawn English, but all soldiers who sacrificed their lives. Thank you to those who served or are currently serving to protect our country.”
Ohio Northern is in Ada, Ohio, about 70 miles south of Toledo.
