The Loop

A most awkward ace

July 24, 2009

Arjun Atwal's history at the wheel of a BMW is a tragic one; in 2007, Atwal was en route home from Isleworth Country Club in Windemere, Fla., traveling 85 miles per hour, by his own estimate, when he was involved in an accident that killed another driver (see Tim Rosaforte's story in Golf World here). Atwal later was absolved of any wrongdoing.

Fast forward to Friday at the RBC Canadian Open, the par-3 15th hole, where BMW Canada was awarding a new BMW to anyone making a hole-in-one there this week. Atwal, using an 8-iron, aced the hole, one of two made there (Briny Baird had the other). Each won a BMW Z4 Roadster.

The Globe and Mail has the story, beneath the headline, "BMW, Atwal collide over hole-in-one."
