A kid, cancer and your chance to donate to a worthy cause.
Earlier today, Tiger Woods sent this tweet: "Pretty amazing kid, met @ Sherwood."
@TigerWoods was retweeting this note from @KyleLograsso: "10-year-old cancer survivor to play 100 holes of golf in one day: http:/Kylelograsso.org/f4s100/."
Social media doing what it does best. Lograsso sent up a flare for support, and Tiger, with his 2,427,115 followers, came to the rescue.
And although I like Tiger's selfless gesture, this post is not about Tiger the social savior; it's about Kyle the courageous kid. And it's about using a lot of golf in one day to raise money for a good cause.
Lograsso, 10, originally appeared in Golf Digest in 2007 when Dave Kindred documented __[](http://www.golfdigest.com/magazine/kindred_gd0705)[Kyle's fight with a life-threatening cancer in both of his eyes](http://www.golfdigest.com/magazine/kindred_gd0705)__.
Retinoblastoma is a cancer that sounds as bad as it is. Lograsso lost his left eye when he was 2, but only hours after being released from the hospital, he was back to doing what he loved (and still loves): swinging a golf club.
When avid golfers refer to "the kid in me," they're referring to Kyle. There's a Tigger-like bounce to his step, and whatever competitive spark he had in both eyes lives on in his right eye.
Since Kindred's story, Lograsso has appeared on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" and on "HBO Real Sports" (twice). He has met Tiger, Phil, the Shark and countless other athletes and celebrities, and yet, thanks to good parenting and a supportive pair of sisters, he remains humble and respectful of his elders. (He calls me "Mr. Matt.")
Through the years, I've become close to the Lograssos. I've written various posts about Kyle's dream to meet Tiger and being present at Lograsso's charity golf tournament, where Kyle predicted he'd make a hole-in-one. And did.
On Monday, July 16, I'll be playing golf in San Diego to help raise money for Lograsso's charity, Through Kyle's Eyes, which increases awareness of retinoblastoma.
I ask that you take a minute and a few dollars and pitch in. I plan on playing at least 100 holes at Center City Golf Course at Goat Hill. The event is coordinated by__Hundred Hole Hike__, "a national network of golf marathons where participants walk 100 or more holes of golf in one day, raising money for worthwhile charitable causes."
This is my flare, and I'm in need of your support. You can pledge here.
Pledge directly to Kyle's event the following week__here__.
After seeing Tiger's retweet, Kyle tweeted this: "Wake up and see that my favorite golfer @TigerWoods retweeted for me to 2 million followers. How lucky am I? Thank you Tiger. Love Kyle."
Like Tiger said, "Pretty amazing kid."
And thank you.*
