This week, Faldo tee'd it up at the site of next month's British Open and just so happened to bump into the reigning Masters champ Rory McIlroy on a scouting trip. In a brief chat, McIlroy touched on the changes to Royal Birkdale since the last time the Open was held there in 2017, as well as his recent strategy of playing upcoming major venues in advance. "Which has worked out for me," he quipped.

McIlroy also revealed that he plans to play the Scottish Open in order to further accilmate to links golf before the year's final major. He hasn't won an Open since 2014 at Hoylake, but he seems to be taking his Claret Jug pursuit seriously this year. And why wouldn't he? One more major victory vaults McIlroy into hallowed territory, joining the likes on Arnold Palmer, Bobby Jones and Sam Snead with seven ... while also passing Faldo with six. Sorry, Sir Nick. Knighted or not, history comes for all of us eventually.
