Ranked 77th in the World Amateur Golf Rankings, Lin earned medalist honors at 13 under heading into match play at Old Chatham Golf Club in Durham, N.C., and she became the 13th medalist to also seize the championship. In Saturday’s final, Lin defeated 17-year-old Amelie Zalsman, of St. Petersburg, Fla., 5 and 4 in 32 holes. Zelsman, ranked 32nd, was making her fifth appearance in the U.S. Girls’ Junior, while Lin was playing her third. In an impressive statistic, Lin birdied each of the 18 holes over Old Chatham over the course of the competition. “I've dreamed of [this win] my entire life,” said Lin, who was born in British Columbia and now lives in Southern California.
