Wild Rock Golf Club
Wisconsin Dells, WI, United States • Public
Overview
Wild Rock, located about an hour northwest of Madison, plays on and around an old stone quarry, creating some dramatic elevation changes and drop-offs. Designers Michael Hurdzan and Dana Fry placed numerous bunkers in the middle of fairways, forcing thoughtful strategy off the tee. The signature par-3 15th plays over the old quarry but provides a shorter bail-out option left of the green for those not willing to take on the forced carry.

“Wild Rock allows for multiple routes to a green and pin positions dictate the best strategy for playing a hole. The course doesn't beat up a safe playing high handicapper and there are plenty of risk reward decision for low handicap golfers making the course challenging while fair. The course has multiple tee boxes to choose from, several memorable tee shots, views and holes. Wild Rock is well maintained and with the variety of holes, shot requirements and greens it makes for a fun and challenging course to play."

“A fun resort course that offers a good amount of risk/reward opportunities to tempt and challenge you. Starting with #1 a par 5 that may be reachable in 2, or at least leave you a short chip. But you have to clear a penalty area on your 2nd shot, so a slight mis hit and you're in trouble. Laying up still leaves a fairly short shot into fairly large green. #5 and #17 are short par 4's that also offer tempting options to get on or close off the tee. Good par 3's, #4 is a long carry over water but the green will run away and right towards a back right pin so you can play a little left. # 15 is an intimidating looking tee shot over a the quarry. A very different angle of approach from the back 2 sets of tees than the forward 3 sets. Greens are mostly large, several multi tiered and others with a lot of undulation. Some have almost bowls or collection areas that will funnel a ball toward the pin if it is there. Pay attention to the green as you can have options with your approach shot to use tiers and slopes to your advantage."
