“Challenges abound on the front nine! Healthy, hilly walk. Beautiful during fall colors."

“Great course that has continued to slowly make improvements over the years to create a course that matches the Langford heritage. Far better than many clubs that are better known -- get here if you can!"

“West Bend Country Club's front 9 was designed by Langford & Moreau and the club has spent the last few years renovating the back 9, which was designed about 30 years later by a different architect, to better blend it in with the original 9 holes. The course utilizes natural landscapes to create hazards and challenges for golfers to navigate during their round. Local knowledge goes far on this course as getting in the wrong location off the tee can create blind approach shots and being on the wrong side of greens can lead to nearly impossible up and downs. Despite local knowledge playing a role on this course the challenge to golfers is very fair. The course has a nice mix of length on the par 3's, 4's and 5's, plenty of uphill and downhill shots and the green complexes have a good variety of slopes, angles and approaches into them. The 7th hole is a short but memorable par 4 that will give you a sense of accomplishment if you make par or better. Those with access to this private club will find it an enjoyable golden age course to play and there are 6 sets of tees ranging from 4,814 - 6,887 yards on this par 72/73 course."

“played it originally in 2022 and was excited to come back and see the slight tweaks that Kyle Goalby was going to do in ‘23/’24. It was basically tree removal and growing some fescue in a few spots. The esthetics improved with those changes, and the conditioning was fantastic this time around. Langford and Moreau designed the original 9 in 1930 and then the depression hit and never finished the back 9. It wasn’t until nearly 30 years later that the back 9 was built and the architect David Gill and he didn’t use the plans that Langford had. What was going to be 10, is the finish so he didn’t follow the routing at all. So, it doesn’t quite flow like it was the 18 holes of the same architect. When I say doesn’t quite flow it’s because architect Kye Goalby started working on the back 9 to put it more in the Langford Moreau style starting in 2008. He kept the routing but tweaking the holes to put the L & M stamp on it. Just like Lawsonia and some of the Skokie greens, the green complexes are just incredible and is the highlight of a course that has great elevation movement. L & M 9 had one so-so hole, the straight 5th at 392 yards which had a semi-blind tee shot. To me it was to get to the awesome par 5 6th at 557 yards that had a massive fairway tilt left to right and then went uphill to the green. The 7th was a cool way up par 4 at 361 yards – the volcano hole. The back side was pretty good, but the 10th, 12th and 14th were 354, 349 and 358 yards and you were hitting basically the same club into the green. Despite the back 9, no doubt in my mind that this course belongs in the top 20/25 in the state. And it checks in at #20 in the recently released list."

“Front 9 is full of character with some classic "old school" push-up greens. The green on the par 5 3rd is one of the more interesting and fun I've ever seen. A four-to-five-foot ridge cuts the back off from the front. Would love to play again now knowing what it is like. Back 9 is undergoing transformation to make it blend better with older front 9. Course meanders up and down ridges and valleys from 7 to 18."
