Overview
Despite the rumor, Erin Hills wasn’t designed specifically to host a U.S. Open. Its original concept was to be a simple, affordable, lay-of-the-land layout, to prove Mother Nature is indeed the best golf architect. The concept changed—some greens moved, one blind par 3 eliminated—as the quest for a U.S. Open grew. That dream came true: after trial runs hosting the 2008 U.S. Women’s Public Links and the 2011 U.S. Amateur, Erin Hills hosted the U.S. Open in 2017, the first time the event had ever been in Wisconsin. Brooks Koepka won with a 72-hole score of 16-under, leading some to conclude Erin Hills was too wide and defenseless. In truth, what it lacked that week was the usual gusty winds that would have effectively narrowed the slanted, canted fairways. Had the par been adjusted to 70 instead of 72 as is usual for most Opens, the score would likely have been closer to 8-under.

“If you play a round at Erin Hills and didn't enjoy the round. Must have been bad weather, or could hit the ball that day. Even if those two factors were at play. I believe this course delivers on everything you would like to see in a Championship golf course, posses style and craftsmanship in golf architecture. The layout is as varied and the topography it lays on, the holes emerge from the landscape and the course offers a captivating day of beauty in a golf course."

“A giant, sprawling layout over central Wisconsin, Erin Hills reminds me quite a bit of an inland Shinnecock Hills with its dramatic land movement, perched greens, and gorgeous fescue. This course literally seems made to host major championships and is very tough, especially when the wind blows. There are a number of memorable holes here but particular standouts include 8, 9, 12, and 15. The par fives give the golfer numerous options throughout and the short par 4 2nd and 15th are fantastic match play holes with excellent risk/reward options. This is an elite and very unique public course that should be on every itinerary on a Wisconsin golf trip."

“This is a big course. From the second you step on property you know you are going to have a day. This course will push you, from the walk to navigating the course. The greens are pure, but very tricky with undulations and slopes that demand your attention. The fairways roll and provide all sorts of good and bad outcomes. And expect the wind, because it's waiting for you! This is a course you will remember. You will want to go back. And if you can catch a sunset from the back patio, you will perfectly end a memorable day."

“Great routing through beautiful high dunes. You can a lot of thought went into the routing with the amount of land they had to work building the course. Built for tournament golf! Test your game against the best"

“A great golf course which measures anywhere from 5,000 yards to 7,700 yards depending on the tee boxes you play. The experience including the service is top notch. The course is in great shape with walking only which you don't see cart traffic or matted down grass due to carts. Many of the landing areas are generous to the tee shot but will leave you with difficult shots to either a narrow or well protected green."

“surprisingly fun course, back side is wonderful. Long walk with lots of hills, so if you can't walk far, its not for you. 12th hole is a cool hole, 9th hole is devlish."
