Overview
Even before Pete Dye completed the River Course at Blackwolf Run, he had taken the front nine of the original Blackwolf Course (Best New Resort winner of 1988) and merged it with a newly constructed nine to form the Meadow Valleys course. Although the Sheboygan River isn't in play as much on Meadow Valleys as it is on the River (the 18th hole plays over it), there are plenty of deep bunkers and tricky pin positions.

“The course is a composite of holes that uses some holes from prior courses coupled with newly designed holes, so there may not be as contiguous a feel / theme as other courses you have played. The first few holes play fairly straightforward and build with interest as the round goes on. The fairways were considerably open, making the challenge a bit easier. You can't just grab driver on every hole, with several holes requiring some decision making on drive placement to avoid trouble and for a better approach. Greens were firm and fast and varied nicely in size and contour. An interesting course that provides a good warm up for those playing the River later in their trip."

“Plenty of room off the tee throughout this naturally pleasing layout. Wind was up from the prevailing direction, which helped a couple par 4s and 5s bare their teeth. Fair greens that were receptive and rolled true."

“The front nine, which is not original, is not particularly inspiring, but the back nine, part of the original 18 holes, is phenomenal."

“Meadows Valley is an engaging test of golf. The subtle undulation changes into the greens keep you on your toes, forcing you to think through every approach. The conditioning is the star of the show, with, nothing out of place. The foliage and nature give the property a beauty that adds to the experience without getting in the way of the golf. What stands out most is the contrast between the two nines. They feel distinct, almost like you’re playing two different courses, and it’s one of the layout’s strengths. The approach into the par-4 14th is one you’ll remember, and the closing stretch on the scenic par-4 18th is a fitting finish. The par-3 15th is a stout challenge and will push higher and lower handicappers to earn their par, perhaps too strict a test. A well-presented, well-conditioned course that rewards precision and delivers a memorable day."

“Pete Dye finished the back 9 in 1988 and the front in 1989. Originally the entire Blackwolf Run was the now Meadow Valleys #11-18 + River course 1-4 and 14-18 + a “mystery” hole no longer in play on either. Top new public course 1988 by Golf Digest. Then 18 more holes added to the property in 1989, including the now back 9 of Meadow Valleys. The original course is still used in championships like the 1998 and 2012 U.S. Women’s Opens. The course was in excellent condition when I played in September, although my playing partners were quite frustrated with the fescue on most holes, not only for finding their ball but as a visual distraction. Bentgrass greens rolled uniformly well. Staff, to a person, were very happy to be at the resort, which is in a small town (Kohler). Stay at the American Club and book your restaurant reservations EARLY. There are 3 restaurants in the hotel, one very expensive, one in the middle, and one that's essentially a sports bar. All are very good to excellent."

“A very solid course, easier but not quite as interesting as the River course next door. That said, you can have a lot of fun here, score well, and play a little looser on The Meadow Valley course compared to River. The restaurant on site is very solid, and you have to check out the par 3 course here (The Baths). It’s truly wonderful and an amazing way to spend an afternoon!"

“8 holes of the original Championship Course, make up holes 11-18 on back nine of the Meadows. Front 9 plays out and is relatively flat. Hole 10 uses the original #1 green, but you play to it from a different direction, through some narrow woods. This one hole just doesn't seem to fit because of this. The balance of the back nine moves you down and along the river. 18 is a fantastic finishing hole. How close do you want to play to the river in order to get the best angle to the green across the Sheboygan River?"

“The Meadow Valleys course at Blackwolf Run is often overlooked by visitors to Kohler, WI but it certainly is a course worth playing. The first 7 holes aren't very severe when it comes to penalizing wayward shots but those holes aren't easy pars thanks to their green complexes and rolling fairways. Things get more Pete Dye like starting on the 8th tee where water comes into play and for the remainder of your round you will be faced with some fun risk/reward shots and a solid test of your golf skills. The short 13th hole called Chimney plays only 341 yards from the back set of tees yet it is a very memorable hole. One can hit anything from driver to short iron off the tee leaving an approach shot to a volcano green which allows you to see less of the putting surface the closer you get to it. Rarely do you have an intimidating 70-90 yard approach shot from the middle of a fairway but that is what you will experience on this strategic hole. The 18th hole is a great finishing hole with a forced carry over the Sheboygan River to a double green - there is also has an alternative 18th green for lesser skilled players. What makes the course enjoyable is that it is difficult without being impossible provided you utilize good course management skills. The course conditions at Meadow Valleys are excellent and the course will be enjoyable for your group provided you choose the set of tees that fits you game. Meadow Valleys has 6 sets of tees ranging from 5,065 - 7,250 yards."

“The front 9 left me bored. I felt like I was asked to hit the same drives over and over again followed by similar approach shots. These got much better on the back 9 as some variety was introduced. Conditions were too soft. Plenty of rain had been in the area yet the sprinklers were still going as I played."
