Overview
This Tom Jackson design, rated among the top public courses in Virginia, is a beauty. The course, which overlooks Lake Manassas, is challenging from the back set of tees, yet playable for all levels with a friendly forward tee yardage of 4,889 yards. No. 18 requires a layup to the water fronting the green, or a really gutsy second shot over it. The front nine is open and plays along the lake, while the back nine takes you inland to wooded hills. From No. 15 tee, you can get a glimpse of the private Robert Trent Jones Golf Club. Stonewall offers its own private-club experience with its amenities, among them excellent practice facilities, with range balls included in the greens fee and a large clubhouse with a terrace overlooking the lake that is a destination in itself.

“Stonewall Golf Club is a public-access Tom Jackson design in the D.C. suburbs that takes good advantage of the various water features in and around the course. While admittedly the round winds through a high-end housing development, there are at least a handful of memorable holes. All of the par 3s are attractive and most of the par 5s are very good golf holes. The greens are large and the fairways are mostly generous, though backyard OB does lurk quite a bit on some early holes. Green surrounds typically have small mounds and light rough, and there is usually plenty of room to miss with approach shots. The greens have subtle and mostly gentle contours, which would have played more of a role had they been a touch faster. Overall, Stonewall is a very pleasant course for public play with some lovely holes, especially on the back nine away from the homes."

“The stone walls at #4, 6, 7 and 17 beautifully frame outstanding golf holes. The water hazards at #15 and 18 create magnificent backdrops as well as excellent shot options. There are however numerous un-groomed areas, wet spots and weeds in a majority of the landscaping (and several bunkers). Named holes and stone tee markers add some character to an otherwise indistinctive golf community."
