Overview
Entrada at Snow Canyon was Golf Digest's Best Transformation winner in 2022 following a complete stripdown and rebuild by architect David McLay Kidd of the modest 1990s design. Every hole was redeveloped, with fairways widened and greens lowered and enlarged, their surrounds recontoured to better promote recovery options and the abiliity to bounce and run balls onto the putting surfaces. The setting in the high desert of southern Utah remains scenic, with holes skirting lakes and making a turn through outcroppings of black volcanic rock on the second nine, but the course is much more playable and elastic for the members.

“You can see my review from 3 years ago below. A recent David McLay Kidd renovation has brought the fun back to golf here. Fun track to play with many unique and imaginative holes, and you no longer need to hit a 7 iron off the par 5 16th hole! Anytime a course has a par five that requires you to hit a 7 iron off the tee, it is going to the bottom of my list. Conditions are good, has a few good holes."

“Course was originally designed by Johnny Miller and opened in 1996. The course was totally renovated by David McLay-Kidd and fully reopened in April of this year. Having played the original Miller course, the newly renovated course is a 100% different golf course. While the hole layout and par of each is basically the same (except for flipping the pars on holes 15 and 16) the course is totally different in terms of land contours, sight lines and playability. Given the newness of the course, the turf is still maturing and, in some areas, will require rework and growth time. Overall, this is an outstanding golf course with virtually shot options either off the tee and or into the greens on every hole. Directional mounding has been incorporated into the layout affording different methods of scoring - through the air or on the ground. Hole site lines have been significantly improved to incorporate black lava flows (holes 15 - 17), desert arroyos (holes 5, 9, 11, 13, 14 and 18) and meandering streams and lakes (holes 2, 4, 6, 7, 8 and 12) all bordered by scenic rustic colored sandstone formations. Course consistently played firm and fast throughout. Greens included contours and directional mounding which clearly impacted approach shot accuracy and putting. While the putting was challenging the greens were considered fair. Several interesting design features included elevated tees on holes 10 and 18 taking advantage of the surrounding site lines and terrain and the tee box on the par 3 5th was stepped from back to front playing to an elevated green bordered by deep knobby bunkers. Fairways were expansive and bordered by well-designed bunkering and various natural and man-made penalty areas. Overall, the original Miller course was very penal to mishit shots and site lines were blocked by man-made hills and slopes / barriers. The new course has no such barriers and was much more playable and enjoyable while being very challenging to all levels of golfers."
