Overview

Officially rebranded from the Duke’s to Craigtoun after the St. Andrews Links Trust took over a long-term lease on the course in 2026, the course has a unique mix of links, parkland and Australian sandbelt features. Three miles in-land from the Old Course and 150 meters above the town of St. Andrews sits the Craigtoun course at St. Andrews Links. Originally opened in 1995, the course was designed by five-time open champion Peter Thompson and Ross Perret. Tim Liddy was later commissioned in 2006 to complete an overhaul restoration that saw the addition of five new holes, three new green complexes, over 100 renovated bunkers and the addition of nearly 400 yards of length. The course is perched on naturally made undulations with fairways guarded by towering pines and sandbelt-style contoured bunkers with fescue edges. The greensites harken back to old-school links golf with large surfaces, ample run up areas and plenty of slopes. The front nine features the challenging par-4 sixth and tricky par-3 seventh with panoramic views of the surrounding coastline and the town of St. Andrews below. The back nine proves to be just as scenic, as the stretch from 12-15 is played with open vistas to the surrounding countryside and ocean below.
