Overview
Westchester County golf is full of hidden gems, but Sunningdale Country Club is often overlooked. It has a rich pedigree of architects with Walter Travis, A.W. Tillinghast and Seth Raynor working here. Meanwhile, Mike DeVries most recently completed renovation work. Like so many great Westchester courses, the rolling terrain creates an ideal setting for golf. Green complexes have character and extreme undulation in spots. The fairways aren’t so much rolling as they are rollicking, wild and random in a charming kind of way.

“Classic design in the rolling hills of Weschester County, NY. The land movements of the property including a prominent ridge the bisects the course. The routing utilizes this ridge in a variety of ways, playing up and over, down and across the ridge resulting in a lot of uneven lies in the fairways often to elevated or sunken green sites making distance control difficult. The ways in which the holes are cut mkae varying tee ball shot shapes beneficial if executed well."

“The first ten holes and the last three holes were a real treat to play: beautiful holes that were very pleasing to the eye that also provided shot challenge, risk/reward and design variety. Holes 11-15 were fairly vanilla, made even more apparent by the elegance of the other thirteen."

“Sunningdale is the result of several different architects, most recently Mike Devries who renovated the course several years ago. The defining features of the course is the rolling land which creates nice variety of uphill and downhill holes as well as the greens, which are large, very fast, and very undulating. Quirks like the old stone figure on the 7th hole add to the character and aesthetics. Several holes give you options at Sunningdale, but sadly the reachable 305 yard 11th is not one of them, as you are not allowed to go for this green from the teebox! Westchester is an extremely deep region, and while Sunningdale is not at the top, it is well-worth a play and a fun course."

“This course is a joy to play. The most underrated course in Westchester county and possibly the entire state."
