Overview
Located in the hills overlooking the Long Island Sound, just 25 miles from downtown New York City, is the stunning Seth Raynor and C.B. Macdonald-designed golf course at North Shore Country Club. The course features open fairways built among harsh undulations, often guarded by strategically placed ravines and cross bunkers. Putting surfaces are firm and varied in shapes and size, with dramatic slopes and lots of pitch. Tom Doak recently undertook significant renovations to the course, re-doing the drivable par-4 seventh, as well as changing the orientation of holes 1, 2, 17 and 18. The new routing opens with two gentle par 4s and concludes with the short par-3 17th, home to the most sloped green on the golf course, as well as the brutal 630 yard par-5 18th.

“A classic Colt Allison design, kept in exceptional condition by one of the best superintendents in the county. Layout variety is good, although the par-3s are pretty similar except for #16. This is a tournament quality course with a long championship tradition (US Open, US Amateur) while still a great deal of fun to play. Clubhouse setting adds to the ambience and sets the tone for a very special day of golf if you have the opportunity to play. One of the more underrated courses in the northern suburbs of Chicago with surround courses like Shoreacres, Old Elm, Bob O'Link and Skokie nearby."

“The front 9 is as good of a test of golf as anywhere you want to compare it to. Risk/Reward abounds, and shot making is a must throughout the golf course. The greens are firm and fast but can be rewarding if known how to play. I would highly recommend this hidden gem to anyone (especially those McDonald/Reynor fans)."
