Review
“Designed by Herbert Strong and Devereux Emmet, Engineers Country Club was considered one of the best courses in the country upon its opening and hosted an early PGA Championship. The course no longer is held in such high esteem but was one of the biggest pleasant surprises of the year for me. The course plays over hilly terrain with wonderful land movement leading to memorable holes. The conditioning was not perfect, but the course played extremely firm and fast, especially the greens. While not a long course and fairly open, the greens here are as interesting and difficult as it comes and only the best putters would get through a round here without some three-putts. In addition to being quite fun, there are a number of highly unique and memorable holes here, most notably the infamous "2 or 20" short par 3 14th where you must hit the green or else. The downhill approaches at 16 and 18 are also fantastic. Unfortunately, there's been lots of discussion about selling the land for housing and this wound be a great loss for Long Island to lose such a unique course."
