Overview
Steeped in history dating back to 1898 and two other previous sites, Century Country Club is another great course in a crowded neighborhood of Westchester Country Club (with five other great private clubs in Purchase, N.Y. alone). Walter Travis consulted the club to acquire its current 175 acres, moving from nearby Greenburgh, N.Y., which was sold to Metropolis Country Club—and Harry Colt and C.H. Alison were hired to design the new course. Century is a co-host of U.S. Open sectional qualifying along with neighboring Old Oaks on alternate years with New Jersey's Canoe Brook Country Club.

“Century is a classic layout that stands the test of time by asking players to execute proper strategic choices to score well on this Golden Age charmer. The course is well-routed through a parkland site. Much of the land is relatively mundane, but a nice variety of holes with good risk/reward options help make up for that. Throughout a player’s round, finding the line of charm off the tee is key to opening up ideal angles for approach. Thought must be put into each approach shot given the amount of slope on these firm, fast greens. Players who miss greens will be presented with a variety of tests to get up and down. Run-up options are available on most holes. Combined with well-placed bunkers and unpredictable rough, a player’s short game can be given the opportunity to shine. This all makes for very strong shot options. The layout variety is strong. Holes of differing lengths constantly change direction and won’t allow a player to get comfortable with the same wind direction for long. There are a number of long par 4s with varied characteristics that are the strength of the course: 5, 6, 10, 14, 16 and 18 are all well over 400 yards but all play very differently. The category that stood out the most was conditioning. Fairways were bouncy and greens were firm and rolled as true as anyone could hope for. The fiery nature of the course has a trickle-down effect in enhancing shot options and boosting the fun factor."

“I enjoyed Century. It stands out in the area given the massive tree removal. The turf conditions were idea, another nod to the tree removal. I appreciated seeing the restoration work with "Hugh Alison" bunkering as the standout feature. The big bold bunkering is special to see. I really enjoyed the 6th-8th holes as they rolled up/down and around a natural area. Not much more could be done, I think this parkland course is at it's prime."

“Century is an excellent Allison design and another course in Westchester County that flies well under the radar. A big, championship course with U.S. Open-style rough, Century offers quite the challenge and superb playing conditions. There are no bad holes here and the closing stretch is especially strong with some very long holes. If given the chance to play, any golfer should gladly accept an invite."

“Century C.C. is a rare Colt and Alison design recently renovated by Keith Foster. Like many of its Westchester neighbors, Century is a strong test of parkland golf in beautiful shape. I particularly enjoyed the greens, which offered strong variety and were very difficult with subtle breaks. While the rolling hills of Century don't provide incredible backdrops, the course itself is quite attractive with a unique style of bunkering that suits the eye well. "

“A very walk-able course that is fun to play. The greens are true and in excellent condition. A nice variety in length, direction, and uphill/downhill makes each hole seem like something new. A nice blend of holes. The course is neither hard nor easy because they have holes that are in each category. A good player will make a birdie or two but still be challenged on the more difficult holes., Firm greens make the longer holes play more difficult as the landing areas are effectively smaller. Excellent bunkers for recovery shots. I would rather be in a bunker here than the green side rough. For me, the strength of the course are the par fours. I liked the consecutive stretch of 5, 6, 9, 10, 12, and 14. They had different length, different directions and a mix of uphill, side hill and downhill shots. There are also several good green complexes that would dictate shots into the greens. You cannot be short sided or above certain pins. A fun course to play regularly."
