TPC Summerlin
TPC Summerlin
1700 Village Center Cir
Las Vegas, NV 89134-6302
United States
Overview
TPC Summerlin co-hosted the 1996 Shriners Children’s Open (then the Las Vegas Invitational), where Tiger Woods captured his first career PGA Tour victory. The Las Vegas desert layout, designed by Fuzzy Zoeller and Bobby Weed, winds through arroyos and canyons. As you’d expect from a TPC facility, the practice facilities are tremendous, covering 12 acres and including two short game areas and a 10,000 square-foot practice green.

“Solid best in State course in Nevada. Fun design with some interesting short 4's and par 3's. Par 4 18th is a solid closer requring a solid drive to attack a green gaurded by water right and bunkers left. Worth a visit but would not go out of my way to play. Good desert layout but not the wow factor of others in the area."

“I was pleasantly surprised, having a bit of a prejudice against most TPC monikered courses. Having just been given the green light to play by my back physician, getting the ball in the air on forced carries presents a bit of a challenge, but most every green complex presented a variety of ways to skin the cat along the ground. The golf course was firm & fast throughout and the greens themselves were firm and true. There is a common thread in the strategic geometry that was a bit repetitive, but one cannot expect every golf course to be a Bill Coore rubric cube. Summerlin is in a windy corridor, so great care was taken to accommodate approaches regardless of which part of the compass the breeze was coming from. I would play it again for fun factor certainly. The "Character" rating is a bit misleading because the "era" is really the TPC desert ethos, of which this layout is a pretty good example."

“TPC Summerlin shined in the closing stretch with good risk/reward holes with the short par 4 15th, reachable par 5 16th and par 3 17th with water left. These three holes have set this course up for exciting finishes at the Shriners event on the PGA Tour."

“TPC Summerlin is located 30 minutes northwest of the Las Vegas Strip. It’s a private course that hosts the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open PGA tournament in October . It’s a desert layout designed by Fuzzy Zoeller and Bobby Weed (1991). Generous fairways, strategically placed bunkers, fast and firm fairways and challenging green complexes with subtle elevation changes"

“Great conditioned course. Has a couple difficult driving holes, but other than that pretty open. Greens are in terrific shape bunkers as well. Challenging but easily scoreable. No real jaw dropping signature hole"

“Because of the TOUR event this course holds, it gets a lot of exposure. It is a fine course but not really architecturally appealing."
