Overview
The Ken Dye-designed Red Hawk Golf Club sits at the base of the Organ Mountains just outside of La Cruces and features a truly unique mix of links and prairie-style golf. The fairways and greens at Red Hawk Golf Club are set over harsh, undulating terrain, making flat lies and straight putts rare. The course is playfully designed with a collection of short par-4s and reachable par-5s, resulting in ample risk-reward shots. The course is home to large sloped putting surfaces, often with multiple tiers and devilish pin placements. The standout holes at Red Hawk are the demanding final stretch of par 4s at 17 and 18, playing into the wind and over 450 yards, demanding a golfer's best shots of the day.

“Red Hawk is a solid, underrated golf course in a beautiful desert setting with a collection of good, memorable holes. I can't help feeling that in a bigger city like Phoenix or even ABQ, Red Hawk would be on everyone's must-play list. Las Cruces is a windy place certain times of year, and the course playability suffers during this time, but I imagine it plays a dream for the rest of the year."

“Red Hawk is a Ken Dye design that demands heroic golf shots. A golfer who likes downhill holes and who has a natural draw off the tee will enjoy this course. The greens are tremendous; each one resembles a crumpled cloth napkin, with high contours that can be used a backstops and low points that drain off the green into runoff areas (but fortunately not into the bunkers that surround most greens). In a moderate wind, this layout could be quite tough, and this is probably not a good course for higher handicappers, even from a forward tee box, because approach shots need to be so exacting. Deep bunkers surrounding greens would be a problem, but the sand is perfect for executing the longer, spinning bunker shots needed for these greens. But for a decent player, Red Hawk can be tremendous fun, especially if you are hitting your tee shots well."

“Decent course, maybe the best in Las Cruces, but not something to go out of your way to play. Conditioning just ok."

“Red Hawk shares several attributes with its Ken Dye designed sibling 100+ miles north in Albuquerque. The total length at 7,523 is intimidating containing 6 par fours playing 447 yrds or longer, and par 5s stretching to 555, 576, 587 and 601 yrds, respectively. Stone wall lined ponds frame greens (at holes 1,3,6,7,9,13,14 & 18) that speckle an otherwise baron desert landscape. Earth crafted bunkers, whiskered with heather grass, exude aesthetically beauty exemplified by laddered step-in entry points lowering anywhere from 3-8' deep at holes 3,4,8,9,14 & 16. Several soggy spots in the fairways and rough are telling that this course still needs time to mature as it enters into its second decade of exists."
