“This formerly-private course was designed by Seth Raynor and constructed by Charles Banks, making it one of the few Raynor/Banks designs open to the public today. While some of the unique Raynor qualities have been lost over the years, there have been continual efforts to bring back features and bunkering to their original high quality. This is a great value course in a busy area that is very engaging, and well worth a play. Future restoration could bring this course to equal some of its private neighbors."

“One of the very few Public Seth Raynor courses in existence. Features the signature push up greens with shades of template holes on a few of the holes. Wide fairways make for easy public play and when running firm and fast the slopes in fairways and greens require deft touch and thinking to play the shot required to hold."

“A best in public contender, this course is flourishing as a northeast home of golf. A wonderfully unique, stimulating design that balances challenge and fun very well"

“A Raynor/Banks that's more of a sleeping giant than a hidden gem. Lots of template fun to be had but rounds at "The Rock" include all the typical frustrations of a poorly run public course in need of investment and a new vision."

“Since the course turned public it has lost a bit of its conditioning, but the routing is still there. The course opens with a couple of shorter par 4s, but they do require precision around hazards and trees. Overall the condition and timing of rounds has slipped in recent years but it is one of the better options for public golf in the NYC area"

“Rock Spring is a classic Seth Raynor/Charles Banks design that recently became public. It is one of the very rare chances for the public to play a Seth Raynor and is certainly one of the best public courses in the NYC Metro area. While some templates have been softened, there are some great holes here like the Redan 3rd, Double Plateau 4th, and Alps 10th. I highly recommend this fun course."
