Overview
Any fan of the Mac/Raynor/Banks style of architecture must go see Forsgate Country Club’s Banks course, which features an outstanding quartet of par 3s, including the bold and dramatic Biarritz 17th. Though Forsgate often struggles in our conditioning category, its landforms and deep bunkering are worth studying and experiencing—and make it deserving of its place among New Jersey’s best courses.

“A course that really comes alive on its greens, the Banks course demands precision with approach shots. A winding property that has considerable undulation, the course tests the golfer largely from 150 and in."

“An outstanding collection of template holes with dramatic deep bunkers with all steep grass faces. The Horseshoe par three 12th is one of the most interesting and unique holes ever. The Biarritz 17th hole has a superb green and the bunkers are so long that a boardwalk is in place to help you get to the green. The elevated greens with severe contouring were a challenge to play. The shear size of the putting surfaces was intimidating."

“Very generous off the tee but wild and challenging greens and deep bunkers will make scoring a challenge if your are wild with your approach shot."

“A lay of the land course with deep bunkers and fast greens. A Unique feature were the four par 3's that were templates culminating with the Barritts number 17."

“Forsgate is templates galore, inherently providing a layout of wide variety. Everything from the general hole shape, contour and green complexes are varied creating a fun and exciting course. This was the firmest course I played all year, which added to the enjoyment. I was told the course gets a lot of play, and this was apparent as there was significant wear and tear for late June. The holes that really stood out to me were #3, #17 and #18. #3 is one of the better renditions of an Eden I have played, with well designed bunkering. #17 is also an exceptionally built Biarritz green, with one of the most severe slopes I have seen on such a hole. In my opinion, 18 is an ideal finishing hole. A strong par 4 that demands a good drive and well struck mid-long iron into an elevated, well-guarded green sets the stage for a dramatic finishing hole that can be easily doubled by the scratch player. Overall, Forsgate is a fun course, that presents some challenge, particularly around the greens and would be a great everyday course for any golfer. However it falls short of championship material, due to some lack in conditioning, aesthetics and length."

“Forsgate is tucked off a highway in Central New Jersey and features 36 holes of private golf. The Banks Course is considered the better of the two with a classic Charles Banks design, featuring template holes and many deep greenside bunkers. The set of par threes here is spectacular culminating in the prodigious Biarritz 17th. The par fives and fours are not quite as good, but the conditions are strong and the course is one of the better privates in New Jersey."

“Forsgate Banks is special because of the bunkering and the greens. The land has just enough features to be interesting and Banks' bold design provides the rest. Private club, worth the visit!"
