Overview
Located in Lincoln, Firethorn is the only course in the state of Nebraska designed by the late Pete Dye. Built in the 1980s, it's the home course for the University of Nebraska's golf teams and offers a number of vintage Dye architectural touches including deep pot bunkers, several par-3 green angled against water hazards and an Alps-like short par 4 with a green completely hidden behind a mound. Those who haven't played the course before usually have no idea where it is.

“Probably the most underrated course in Nebraska."

“Really enjoyable Pete Dye design in Lincoln. Firethorn is not as well known as many of Dye's best, but it is still very well designed with many good and challenging holes. Dye likes visual intimidation, and that is really present down the stretch here."

“A private members only course designed by Pete Dye located in Lincoln, Nebraska that opened in 1986 and has hosted the USGA Women's Amateur. The use of railroad ties by Pete Dye is, of course, expected but the twist on this course is the abundance of buffalo grass that can swallow a golf ball faster than a water hazard, of which there are plenty. The course is a "Prairie Type" that utilizes natural contours and native vegetation to enhance the need for players to be accurate with their shots. If you can find a member to sponsor you, it is well worth the effort to play."

“challenging and beautiful course in Nebraska. Wide fairways but unforgiving if fairways are missed. Much better than I expected."
