Overview
Home to the Duke Blue Devils, a top NCAA Division I program, the Duke Golf Club features significant elevation changes and forced carries over narrow winding creeks. The track also has a fascinating history—it was designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr. in 1957, and it was soon honored as the host of the 1962 men’s NCAA Championship. Rees Jones, eldest son of the esteemed designer, played for Yale University in the championship that year. He went on to renovate the course himself in 1994.

“Very playable course for all levels of golfers. Most holes are treelined with dense forest and there are a few streams running through the course that typically come into play when hitting par 5s in two. Good mix of dogleg lefts and rights and there aren't many obstacles besides creatively shaped bunkering. Fairways and greens are in good shape, especially in the fall."

“A course that starts out with three challenging holes, eases up for remainder but doesn't mean they are pushovers. Good use of elevation and water in the design."

“I've played most of the top campus courses in the US -- this is one of the best. Excellent use of a hilly and forested site. Great value for public play."

“Tree lined course playing up and down the hills in Durham. Club selection is key as elevation changes and distance to doglegs force a player to take a second to think the shot needed."

“Pairs of difficult par 4's bookend the round. Big-boned, old-school RTJones Sr. design. Dictatorial on many holes. Demanding off the tee, but fair. The better your shot, the better your approach. Not many alternate routes. Plenty of forced carries over creeks and barrancas. Hilly in places. Manufactured green complexes with severe drop-offs to the sides and back. Bermuda grass...tough. Would like to see the course again. Liked it a lot."

“Nice routing with some really strong holes. Played on a Monday and the course was very shaggy and slow. Good pace of play"
