“I played the Heron and Ibis nines. Strengths are the few Lockwood Folly River holes. Overall the layout is characterized by rolling undulations and water features that were manufactured. Most of the challenge created by interior dogleg bunkering. Some variety, but basically similar, non-memorable holes within much uniqueness."

“I'm sure it is common for reviewers to say this, but say it I must. The Heron and Ibis are very different golf courses. I know Couples designed them both, but they are so different, that I would never have guessed they were by the same designer. The Heron is open off the tee, medium sized greens, and firm fairways. The greens are receptive but firm. There are lots of shot options off the tee and a good amount of shot options on approach. It has one of the most picturesque and intimidating par threes in the area (#5 at 225 from the back tees to a back left pin). In contrast, the Ibis plays like an island golf course. It has narrow fairways that get very narrow in parts, small greens, soft fairways and somewhat soft greens. The soft, small and relatively flat greens limit approach shots on the Ibis. The only real shot options on the Ibis come from the narrowing of the fairways as one approaches 250-275 off the tee. This creates a sort of risk reward (driver to the narrow portion of the fairway to have a wedge approach or less club to a fatter portion of the fairway and a longer approach). Both courses have variety in their layouts, though the Heron seemed to have more variety. One element that seemed very common throughout both courses was a bailout right off the tee, where a weak fade was almost always forgiven. If the Heron's charm and character had been carried through the Ibis, I believe I would have enjoyed the course more. The small greens and tight fairways on the Ibis did present resistance to scoring. The conditioning of the Heron was excellent. I would have rated it an 8, but the conditioning on the Ibis pulled the conditioning score for the pair down to a 6. "

“I scored fun low because my golf round took 5 hours and 1 minute. The pro shop also said this happens out there more than it should. The golf course also received a lower conditioning score not due to the off season, but due to drainage. It was very wet for not having rained in the past two days."
