Grand Traverse Resort and Spa
Overview
Gary Player created two distinct nines at The Wolverine course at Grand Traverse Resort and Spa. The opening side plays along lowland marshes, with water lining many holes. Despite the water, the fairways are generous on the front. The back nine plays on rolling terrain with more elevation changes from tee to green.

“A very scenic, well-maintained and playable course that provides a perfect complement to The Bear, which is also located at the Grand Traverse Resort, and is likely too difficult for most players to enjoy. That's where The Wolverine serves to provide a less-challenging alternative. Stretching to 7000+ yards from the tips, The Wolverine can also provides more than adequate challenge for better players as well. These courses, along with the Spruce Run course, provide an exemplary array of courses that serve all levels of players at one resort."

“The first hole the features a straight away downhill par 4. And the first 9 holes play along a marshy area with plenty of water features. There is ample width of the fairways to allow the less skilled player to have fun, but also plenty of green contouring and length to challenge the better player. The second 9 plays with rolling hills and features substantial topographical movement with uphill and downhill drives and approaches. The greens are fairly straight-forward with gentle slopes. The course is well conditioned, especially the back 9 with firm and fast greens and fairways. The course features several doglegs (right and left) and straight holes. This is a fun course for the beginner or seasoned player that is an excellent compliment to The Bear."

“Fun design and enjoyable to play but conditioning has slipped a lot. A ton of pitch marks on green - not necessarily the fault of the resort but they could do more."

“Extremely wide fairways and large green complexes. Very forgiving off the tee but approach shots must be accurate. If not could leave yourself putts of 100 feet or more. I would rank this course 2nd out of the three offered at the Grand Traverse Resort."
