“2020 renovation - Bruce Hepner team - redid some bunkers, greens. This is a very different course from front 9 (ocean, marsh setting) to back 9 (housing development). Outstanding Nantucket Sound views from holes 2 though 4 - be sure not to hit your tee ball on the beach! Holes 15 through 18 offer a challenging finish to your round. The views from the bar and restaurant are worth the hike up the steps. Lots of very cool merch in the pro shop. Staff are very attentive and are genuinely interested in you enjoying your round."

“The irony of the Ocean Course at New Seabury is that as soon as the course gets away from the ocean, it starts to get really good. Most of the front nine is played near the water, and although there are some lovely aesthetics, the golf is largely forgettable. The shot options are rather one note: avoid water left and bunkers right, with the player willing to challenge a narrower landing area rewarded with a shorter approach. If all eighteen holes were like this, I'd question why the course is on the candidate list. But starting with the terrific 9th hole, the course comes alive with tremendous land movement, great shot options, and distinctive layout variety that make for a highly enjoyable - if slightly disconnected from the first 8 holes - finish to the round. The back nine reminds one of Old Sandwich or the landlocked holes at Eastward Ho! - two nearby courses that make great use of their great topography. I noted the great options and variety on nearly every hole on the back nine - with boldly played drives rewarding the golfer with more advantageous approaches to greens that were mostly more interesting than their front nine counterparts. The choose-your-own adventure nature of the doglegs and the several holes with blind landing areas made for a really fun finish to the round. Ironically, while I found the quality of the golf better on the back, the aesthetics suffered some as the course weaved through back yards of hundreds of homes. In an ideal world, the aesthetics of the front nine could combine with the shot options, layout variety and fun on the back nine to make a truly great course. One element that stood out throughout all eighteen was the superior conditions. I did my evaluation on November 14th, and the conditions at New Seabury were nothing short of outstanding, for any time of year."

“The Ocean is aptly named, the first 4 holes are right on the water and the first 3 are into the prevailing wind. The 3rd green and 4th tee (back the other way so the prevailing wind is now with you) are right on a point with water all around. It's very easy to get distracted by the view. The right side is the place to "miss" on the front 9 on every hole except 6 and 9. Bunkers on the right side of those holes leave the left open, otherwise you are better to be right than left on the front. When you get to the back 9 the wind isn't as much of a factor with the exception of a couple of holes where there is some exposure. Fairways are wide and greens large with moderate undulation. The back 9 also feature more terrain changes than the front, so the back feels quite different from the front."

“Would love to see the 9's flipped to where you finish the 18 with the back 9 along the Ocean. The 18th hole with a blind, uphill, right-to-left tee shot is very anti-climatic."
