Overview
Boston Golf Club, in the southern suburb of Hingham, is a modern-day Pine Valley, massaged by architect Gil Hanse and his team from dramatic coastal topography with gashes of unsullied sand. Fairways tumble across the landscape, posing some blind shots that are embraced, not criticized. One stretch surrounds an old strip mine, with mining spoils incorporated as chocolate-drop mounds. One vein of sand serves as a “Hell’s One-Third Acre” hazard. Like Garden City Golf Club, Boston finishes with a terrific par-3.

“Excellent Gil Hanse design in the suburbs of Boston. From the great risk-reward par 5 first hole to the uphill par 3 18th, Gil provides a tremendous challenge for even the most skilled golfer. Great piece of property. Hanse moved some earth but the unique twists and turns couple with several elevation changes provide for intersting shot options. Very well maintained while embracing the natural vegetation fo the region. The par 4 14th is a tremendous dog leg right par 4 with a green that allows you to use slope right of the green to help guide your ball toward certain pin locations."

“Great modern layout - a Gil Hanse project from scratch - on an impressive property on Massachusetts' golf-rich South Shore that feels removed from everything. Rolling hills, tall fescue, blind shots, penal bunkering, and strategically placed New England pines frame the hallmark of this layout. The rocky terrain largely recedes except when it's the star of the show, and the large, undulating greens prevent a great contemporary test with numerous shot options driven by a multitude of pin placements per hole. Overall, a very stout test."

“Very challenging yet fair set of green complexes. Shot options abound on most holes....especially the shorter holes that all can be played a variety of ways across all skill levels. The architect allows for bump and run shots to most approaches to greens. A few green complexes that slope away from fairway from front to back which is uncommon to most other courses yet gives good variety. Most all par 4's and par 5's are framed by towering trees yet they do not come into play unless a very wild shot is struck. Standout holes include 2, 6, 9, 13, & 15. Design variety suffers a bit due to most par 4's and par 5's working downhill w/ a dogleg to the right."

“Boston Golf Club is a beautiful modern Gil Hanse design located about 20 minutes south of Boston. Featuring tremendous variety and a difficult layout over rocky terrain, this is one of the best courses in Massachusetts. There are many memorable holes here - from the polarizing short par 4 5th "Shipwreck" to the iconic following par 3 6th to the dramatic par 4 9th that plays severely downhill. The clubhouse is tasteful and minimalistic. I highly recommend BGC to all who get the chance to play."

“Boston Golf Club was far different than I anticipated before showing up on property. The elevation changes were drastic throughout the round offering some outstanding vistas outside Boston MA. While the course offered scenic views, constant hole variation I did feel as though several of the green complexes were a bit too harsh."
