Overview
Located 15 miles east of Wichita on the western perimeter of its namesake Flint Hills prairie region, Tom Fazio incorporated gently rolling terrain, prairie grasses and a meandering body of water into the design. The course features generous zoysia fairways flanked by penal bluegrass rough with fast, highly contoured greens broken into multiple tiers and a naturalistic bunker style that matches the broad prairie environment. Stretching over 7,000 yards with five par-3s, the highly walkable routing shows off a variety of native wildlife. Owner Tom Devlin is a fervent supporter of amateur golf, and Flint Hills has hosted three USGA national championships and a variety of other amateur competitions.

“Flint Hills National has a quiet confidence to it. It doesn’t try to impress you with bold visuals or tricked-up holes, but it does just about everything well. The routing works beautifully through the wooded terrain, and the course builds momentum without ever feeling forced. It’s strategic without being punishing, and the greens are subtle but demanding in the right way. What stood out most to me was how polished the course felt. Every hole had intention behind it, and the conditioning was some of the best I’ve seen all year. Greens were fast and true, and the fairways were tightly maintained. It’s the kind of course that gets better with familiarity. I wouldn’t call it flashy, but it has a level of sophistication and balance that makes it easy to respect. Overall, it’s a strong, complete test that rewards patience, execution, and control. I'd also like to call out how tremendous the staff was while visiting. Absolutely top notch!"

“Flint Hills National is a wonderful place to play golf. The staff are attentive and treat you like royalty. The membership is friendly and welcoming. The course is in fantastic condition in a natural setting away from the rest of the world. If you have a bad time at Flint Hills National there is something wrong with you. That being said, the course is there for you to enjoy and have the time of your life...you will not be architecturally stimulated."

“A well designed private club which had groupings of holes, 1-6 and 10-12 that returned to the clubhouse for partial rounds."

“Flint Hills National is a solid if unspectacular Fazio layout that brings modern challenge and an ever-present wind to an area starving on great golf other than Prairie Dunes. The club was presented as a bit of a hot commodity, when its course style has become a bit passe' at this point, so I don't see it that way now. The course has been updated and softened by Fazio recently, but there are other places the inspire quite a bit more."
