“Top-notch conditioning at Sunset Ridge. Recent renovations have widened playing corridors and run-off areas around several greens have restored original design. Several unique greens, which generally play "back to front", require attention and 3-putts very much in play for misjudged speeds. Routing and layout provide a "logical and compelling journey" and a lovely walk."

“The course at Sunset Ridge serves as a prime example of the type of golf you'd expect to find at the courses on Chicago's North Shore. The holes are not challenging in their length but put a premium on accuracy due to narrow fairways with bunkers that pinch in landing areas even further. Most of the par 4s and 5s on the course have bunkers on at least one side (usually both sides) of the fairway in the landing area. There are several stretches of holes on the course that feel a bit repetitive due to long strings of par 4s unbroken by par 3s or 5s. This includes the opening 4 holes of the course. After a relatively straight forward shorter par 4 with bunkers on both sides of the landing area, the next 3 holes each feautre dog legs with shorter bunkers on the inside of the dog leg and catching bunkers on the outside. Holes 9 - 12 also switch back on one another creating a stetch of alternating holes with uphill into the wind and downhill with the wind tee shots that feel very similar in terms of the required shots. The first two par 3s seem intentionally to favor a draw and then a fade based on the green orientation and bunker placement while the next two emphasize accuracy and then distance control meaning all types of iron shots are tested on the par 3s. The course is in beautifyul condition. Several bunker lies, especially in greenside bunkers were impacted by what seemed like rake lines despite appearing to be freshly raked for the day."
